In 1972, astronaut "Eugene Cernan" led the "Apollo 17" mission to the moon, carrying with him the flags of the world's nations. He returned with samples of moon rocks, which US President "Nixon" distributed to various countries. Egypt was among the nations that received a sample, along with the Egyptian flag that had traveled to the moon—which at the time was the flag of the "United Arab Republic." The rock and the flag were displayed in the "Egyptian Geological Museum," which houses a collection of meteorites and space rocks.
