In the early 20th century, the idea of establishing a national university arose to educate young Egyptians instead of sending them to Europe. Despite opposition from the British occupation, a number of patriots gathered at the home of "Saad Zaghloul" to found the "Egyptian University." It began in temporary buildings and later became "Cairo University," a symbol of knowledge and independence.
