The "Gilf Kebir" plateau is located in the southwestern part of the Western Desert and was inhabited by Egyptians 12,000 years ago. It is famous for its decorated caves, such as the "Cave of Swimmers" and the "Cave of Beasts" (Cave of Djara). It was discovered by Prince "Kamal el-Din" in 1925 and is considered an environmental and human record of the climatic and civilizational changes in the region.
