After his victory over the Persians, "Alexander the Great" went to Egypt and founded the city of Alexandria on the site of the village of "Rhakotis" and the "island of Pharos." The city was designed in a grid pattern and included two harbors, a commercial center, and a mint. It became a culturally and economically independent city, the capital of Egypt, and a meeting point for civilizations.
