Commercial activity and cultural contact between Egypt and the Land of Punt, and its connection to its African roots, date back to 2500 BCE. Egypt exchanged weapons and food with Punt for gold, ivory, and incense. Among the most prominent of these expeditions was the one documented on the walls of the "Deir el-Bahari Temple" during the reign of "Queen Hatshepsut," who sent an expedition of 240 people to Punt. They brought back incense trees, resin, and elephant tusks to Egypt. Several families from Punt also returned with the expedition to study and work.
