The "Hanging Church" is located atop two towers of the "Fortress of Babylon," which was built by Emperor "Trajan" in the 2nd century AD. The "Holy Family" passed through it, and "Amr ibn al-As" entered Egypt through it. The church became known as the "Hanging Church" because it was built on top of these two towers. In its nave are icons such as the "Virgin and Child" and a decorated wooden screen. The "Hanging Church" is one of the oldest Christian worship sites in Egypt and the world.
