"Naguib Mahfouz," the Nobel laureate in Literature, was named after a doctor who saved his mother's life during his birth. "Naguib" began his education in a kuttab (traditional school), studied philosophy, and started writing short stories like "Whisper of Madness." He later wrote screenplays for films that addressed societal issues. He married late, had two daughters, and became one of the most prominent figures of realism in Arabic literature.
